The challenge

Northbeam raised a seed round with a four-person team and a hiring plan that would take them past twenty-five within a year. Every conventional option they looked at required committing to space they would either outgrow or rattle around in.

Their engineering work also demanded a private network segment and somewhere genuinely quiet for long modelling sessions — neither of which most flexible spaces could offer at the time.

What we did

We started them in a six-desk suite on the second floor with a dedicated VLAN, then mapped a growth path through three progressively larger suites before they would need the full floor.

Each move was scheduled around their hiring forecast rather than a renewal date, and our fit-out team handled the physical relocation over a weekend so no working day was lost.

As the team crossed twenty people we added a permanently reserved standing meeting room for their daily engineering sync, which removed the booking friction that had started to cost them time.

Where they are now

Northbeam now occupies the whole of the third floor with a private kitchen and two dedicated rooms. Their operations lead estimates the arrangement saved somewhere north of three hundred thousand dollars in fit-out and broker costs.

More importantly, hiring was never gated on desk availability. In two years the average time between a signed offer and a working desk was eleven days.
