Workplace wellbeing is an operations problem

Air quality, daylight and the walk to the kettle affect how people feel at 4:00 PM far more than a wellbeing app.

Wellbeing initiatives tend to arrive as programmes: a meditation subscription, a lunchtime seminar, a fruit bowl. They are pleasant and they change very little.

The variables that measurably affect how people feel through a working day are almost all operational.

Carbon dioxide is the quiet one

Above roughly 1,000 parts per million, decision-making measurably degrades. A full meeting room with the door shut passes that inside twenty minutes.

We monitor every room and the ventilation responds automatically. It is the least visible thing we spend money on and probably the most valuable.

Daylight, then task light

Desks within about six metres of a window report noticeably better afternoons. Where that is not possible, warm task lighting with individual control is the next best thing.

Build in the walk

Putting the coffee, the printer and the restrooms away from the desks is not an inefficiency. It is the only reliable way to get people out of a chair every hour.

Come and see the space for yourself

Tours run every weekday at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM and take about twenty minutes. There will be a coffee waiting.
